harmonic reading Explanation: Harmonic reading is not common, but it is used as a counterpart to melodic reading. Sight reading is more general, and would be referred to as leitura à primeira vista in Portuguese. For instance, see the curriculum of this music school in NY: Posture, Breathing Techniques, Embouchure, Fingering, Warm Ups, Rhythmic Counting, Melodic/Harmonic Reading (Treble or Bass Clefs), Sight Reading, Ear Training, Scales (Major, Minor, Chromatic), Chords (Block or Arpegios), Instumental Care, Practice Habits, Basic Music Theory http://hvcfa.com/deptmusic.html. In Portuguese, see the example of the requirements for an audition for Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte Leitura à primeira vista: melódica na 1ª. ou 2ª. posição/Leitura harmônica (cifras) http://www.comperve.ufrn.br/conteudo/musica/tecnico2011/docu... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 54 mins (2015-01-28 14:35:33 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Another term that just occurred to me is chord reading. It sounds better... :) |
