Based on Lunardi's analysis, I have a adopted an entirely different interpretation for the line in question. For this reason, I'm closing the question without grading. Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

After digging the internet for analyses of the song "Andança", from which the stanza in question was taken, I found a few interesting things. First, there's almost total ignorance as far as who wrote this song. Even though many websites credit Beth Carvalho or Elis Regina for this song, it was actually written by Paulinho Tapajós, with melody by Edmundo Souto and Danilo Caymmi. (UOL)

Analyses were scanty, but I did find a doctoral thesis by Rafaela Lunardi (Universidade de São Paulo) which addresses the role of the Brazilian Pop Music (MPB) in the political opening process ("Abertura") that led Brazil from a dictatorship to a democracy in the 1980s, in which she briefly analyzes "Andança" in the context of political flyers that aimed at drawing students into the political "debate" (in quotes because there's repression rather than debate in every dictatorship).
