Portuguese term or phrase: tratamento circunvalatório fenoménico
Specifically the term "circunvalatório". It's in an article written in European Portuguese and compares various methods of psychoanalysis, talks a lot about the conscious and unconscious mind (think Freud, Jung, Bion, etc.). Here is the whole sentence, to give some decent context:

Nesta ciência holística, o cientista passa a dispor de uma nova ferramenta – a intuição – que, ao invés de um mero tratamento circunvalatório fenoménico, lhe permite uma função transcendente através da qual ele entra, propriamente, no seu objeto, identificando-se com ele, conectando, neste processo, realidades física e metafísica.

I found no record of this word trawling through the WWW. I wonder is it a typo? Thanks for any help.

I eventually went with "[just a mere] phenomenal circumventing treatment" for the term posted (see the whole sentence I posted to see how it fits in with the surrounding text), so I agree with the choice of "circumventing" for "circunvalatório", which was the word that I had the trouble with. Thanks for the insight and the good explanation of how the author most likely derived it from the root form of the verb.
