Hoje, a lateral da máquina não possui grades, mas um cabo de aço espaçado, evitando que qualquer pessoa entre dentro da área de operação da máquina (para fabricação de pré-moldados). Como o cabo possui nenhum sensor, o acesso fica fácil. Uma forma de evitar esse acesso é colocando uma grade fixa, assim evitando que qualquer pessoa consiga ultrapassar a área de segurança. A NR12 - Segurança do Trabalho em Máquinas e Equipamentos - traz no anexo I - distância de segurança e requisitos para uso de detectores de presença optoelectrónicos. Através desse anexo é possível especificar qual é a abertura e altura da tela através do quadro 01. (Distâncias de segurança para impedir o acesso a zonas de perigo pelos membros superiores). As aberturas podem ser em forma de fenda, quadrado ou circular.
