Romanian term or phrase: Media generala de promovare
This is from a list on a transcript of somebody's exam results:

"Media generala de promovare a anilor de studii ... 8,32"

I know that it is regarding the average grade/mark achieved over the course of the years of study, but I am not sure about the meaning of "promovare". Is it relating to a type of exam? Or is it a general name for advancement in a subject through taking exams.??

Thank you.
