Banii investiti in intreprindere atat de actionari cat si de creditorii pe termen lung, si include capitalul propriu si datoriile pe termen lung sau activele totale minus datoriile curente. Capitalul utilizat intr-o afacere.

Specialistii nu au ajuns la un consens cu privire la elementele pe care le include capitalul utilizat, dar in general se considera ca termenul se refera la activul net (activele curente plus activele fixe, minus cheltuielile curente), la care se adauga imprumuturile bancare si conturile descoperite.
