Как лучше перевести выражение "эфемерово-солянковые пустыни" на английский язык.

Ниже русский контекст.
"В качестве примера сообществ с высокой степенью изменения в течение вегетационного сезона можно назвать эфемерово-солянковые пустыни, в которых весной обильны эфемеры, выгорающие и разрушающиеся летом. На смену им приходят однолетние галофиты, которых весной еще не видно, так как их семена прорастают сравнительно поздно (Келлер, 1940; Коровин, 1961)".

Ephemeral desert with halophytes
Explanation:
Англо-русский почвенно-агрохимический словарь (М., Советская энциклопедия, 1967) дает ephemeral desert - эфемеровая пустыня.

ephemeral desert гуглится, но не очень. Зато прилично гуглится ephemeral desert plants, halophyte desert. Halophytic desert даже приводится в классификации пустынь, кот. я привел в первом примере ниже. Эта же классификация в этом же примере дает Ephemeral semi-desert.

Русская и потом советская почвенно-ботаническая школа были в конце 19-го и в начале-середине 20-го века ведущими в мире. Это видно на примере того, что в Штатах в официально утвержденных классификациях почв русских терминов довольно много (см. Podzolic, Chernozemic - десятки и сотни тысяч гуглохитов).

Поэтому я бы уважил почвенно-агрохимический словарь и использовал Ephemeral desert with halophytes - не как термин, конечно, а как описательный перевод предлагаемого словосочетания.

I was proposed to enter my answer into the KudoZ Glossary and my own glossary. But I chose to enter 'halophyte desert with ephemeral plants'

Reasons: In эфемерово-солянковые the second word is the predominant modifier to пустыни and should be given first in the translation. Making the collocation more compact, 'halophyte' is placed before 'desert':

agree  rikka: desert with halophytes and ephemeral plants // мне кажется, эфемерово-солончаковая здесь относится к типу растительности, не к пустыне; т.е. ephmeral desert это пустыня, которая иногда исчезает, но это не так, пустыня на месте, исчезла растительность

  -> В словарном выражении Eph. desert, Eph., конечно же, выступает как существительное (от ephemeral plants, ephemerals), а не как прилагательное к desert, что было бы бессмыслицей, как Вы отметили - и всё-таки Ef. des. гуглится, хотя и мало..
