it CAN be a Russian family name as well. Explanation: though somewhat rare. The termination "in" corresponds to the name of an anchestor (here:NAL+in), but there are no name Nal in Russian. The Google search comes up with some Nalins, some of them are Russians. BTW, there is an Indian film producer whose name is Nalin too. In the modern Russian slang the word "nal" means "cash" (from "NALichnye dengi). I don"t know other meanings.
