Russian term or phrase: церковный
In an 1879 death record from Gostynin, Poland, one of the two informants is listed as "Янъ Древсъ, церковный, шестьдесятъ одинъ годъ..." I know "церковный" is generally used as an adjective, but seems to be used as a noun here. I can't find it used as such in any dictionaries I have access to, but assume it might refer to a "cleric" or "clergyman" or perhaps some layperson associated with the church? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

a churchman

Explanation:
In this context, it is unclear how was the mentioned person related to the Church/clergy (or, may be, even to a particular church building). Therefore, a word with looser meaning is needed. 'Churchman' usially means 'a clergyman' but may also mean just 'a member of the church', 'a churchgoer', 'a believer'.
