Классическими примерами случайного отбора являются простая вероятностная и пошаговая выборки.
Простая вероятностная выборка предполагает наличие списка всех представителей генеральной совокупности, каждому из которых присваивается порядковый номер. Все номера переносятся на отдельные карточки, а потом среди этих карточек случайным образом, как в лотерее, отбирается необходимое количество респондентов.

Пошаговая выборка отличается от простой вероятностной тем, что респонденты отбираются непосредственно из пронумерованного списка с использованием определенного шага отбора (например, каждый 5-й, 10-й или 100-й). Чтобы получить ****размер шага выборки**** достаточно размер генеральной совокупности разделить на размер выборки.

Сущность процедуры стратифицированной (серийной) выборки заключается в том, что на первом этапе мы разделяем генеральную совокупность на две или более групп (серий) по определенному критерию (например, по полу или возрасту). Затем из каждой группы случайным образом отбираются респонденты. При этом количество отбираемых респондентов может быть пропорциональным размеру группы (например, по 10% от численности каждой из групп) или непропорциональным (например, по 100 респондентов из каждой группы, независимо от ее размера).
