Explanation:
This word is usually used in Russian when speaking about dissidents or those actively, sometimes professionally, engaged in human rights protection activities. In the Soviet times you could only hear this word on the air of foreign radio stations. Examples of 'pravozashchitniks' are Academician Sakharov, his widow Yelena Bonner, Kovalyov. Actually, this penomenon is not so common in the countries of the Western democracy.


    I have not seen it in any of the dictionaries so far, so I can propose an equivalent according to the meaning.
