Light-emitting diodes Explanation: The context doesn't sound very much Russian and there is obviously a misspelling. Most electronic clocks use light-emitting diodes (LED) светоизлучающие диоды СИД or liquid crystals (LC) жидкокристаллические индикаторы ЖКИ. "Alarm-clocks are replaced by solid-state LED watches or VHS timers" Check it and have a nice day! |

LCD and VCR clocks Explanation: I wish I had more context re СЕД. As it is now, it seems to be an inadequate Russian translation of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). (I have no idea how "СЕД" could have been arrived at; however, the last letter seems to correspond to the Russian "дисплей".) Assuming that this is true, I would translate your sentence as follows: (the old-fashioned alarm-clocks) are replaced today by LCD and VCR clocks Hope that this helps.
