Russian term or phrase: полученный на депозит
На аренде жилья зарабатывали хорошо только маклеры, а хозяева квартир получали половину банковского процента .. Стандартная двушка стоит 50 тысяч у.е...10 процентов годовых в у.е. зто 5 тысяч полученных на депозит.

Are they talking about annual interest payments? Or a down payment (since a deposit is a one-time act?) Deposit is the word that's throwing me off here.

English translation:earned on a savings account
Explanation:
The author is comparing what the landlord earned from renting out the apartment to what he would have earned if he had put a sum, equivalent to the price of the apartment, into a savings account (срочный депозит http://dic.academic.ru/dic.nsf/business/12358). 10% is what a typical savings account denominated in dollars would earn you in Russia/Ukraine. Here's a sample: http://www.banki.ru/products/deposits/search/?currency=46&su...
So it would go something like this: "if you put $50,000 into a savings account at 10% annual interest, you'd end up with $5,000."

Your explanation really cleared it up for me. I forgot interest rates were that high on bank accounts in Russia...forget the S and P 500!
