For Anna & Victor. "Sez who" was friendly repartee. I wasn't questioning your credentials. I do, however, strongly dispute the notion that a normal, powerful word such as "indeed" is to be shunned in scientific writing, in favor of more cumbersome -ly adverbs. When I was a youngster, one of the projects I most enjoyed watching my mother, a specialist in English prose composition, work on was a seminar she organized jointly with a former student of hers, now a prominent microbiologist. The topic of the seminar was helping scientific researchers to improve the expressiveness and clarity of their prose. They (the writing instructor and the medical researcher) believed such a seminar was called for, because the widespread notion that scientific writing must be as "sterile" as the laboratory often results in its being less expressive, rich and powerful than it ought to be, and can be - without sacrificing scientific rigor.

neutral  Rachel Douglas: "Представлять собой" isn't "provides" or "implies"; it means that it "is" what follows. That's well expressed by "involves" (as David, IVSH & I agreed) or "provides FOR". "Inversion" then won't work. "It is one of these which involves the placing..." No.
