agree  Rachel Douglas: Yes, "point readers in the right direction" is what came to mind, but I would want to know more of the context, including what the замечание is, in relationship to the new area being discussed, in order to decide between this version and Judith's.

to (properly) orient the reader

Explanation:

Example sentence(s):
  • Although we will not pursue more general boundary layers further in this book...
  • ...to properly orient the reader we should place boundary layers ... in their correct fluid-mechanical context.

neutral  The Misha: I hear you, but this is just not good English. The first thing it brings up in my mind is "orient in space". Now, that's where it really gets interesting.//Oh,don't get me wrong, you can definitely say it.It's just a matter of personal preference. Cheers!

  -> I hear you too:-) I'm very sensitive to any signs of literal or just weird-sounding translation, but in this case there're plenty of serious examples by native speakers, and "orient" can definitely be used figuratively (Webster dictionary). Discussion?

You can say this in any number of ways, so choose what you like best. What Judith proposed certainly works.
