In support of Sergei Explanation: First, волнение when dealing the sea state (or state of the sea)does mean sea. Second, умеренное волнение is moderate sea (wave height 1 2/3-4 feet, according to WMO Code 75). Steady sea is also a good term. But I'm not aware of a steady moderate sea (as Kirill points out), tho' I see no reason why it shouldn't be an acceptable term. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2004-04-25 00:36:54 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- correction ...when dealing WITH the sea.... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2004-04-25 00:42:10 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- See b elow for Pierson-Moscowitz sea state table http://www.oceandata.com/support/Sea State Table.htm -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2004-04-25 00:43:35 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- ooops!
