a camp hand Explanation: This is what such a lady could be called in American cowboy jargon, if such a job existed. However, in US you'd never have a woman doing this. (My cowboy husband is used as reference in this case). A 'hand' refers to a general helper in one or another farming/ranching/herding enterprise. (We say, for example, "a farm hand," "a ranch hand"). But this is just that - a guess. |
