Spanish term or phrase: cortes de las líneas
Hello,

I'm working on an operations manual for a Spanish airline. In a section outlining the responsibilities of the person responsible for scheduling, one of the duties is:

"Realización de los cortes de las líneas con Carmen."

Carmen is a system used to plan routes, but I cannot get my head around "cortes de las líneas" or even "líneas" alone in this context.

Suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Carmen Tail Assignment
With Carmen Tail Assignment you can build aircraft routes covering a specific set of flights and/or legs. Each route meets any number of maintenance constraints, and can either be anonymous or optimally assigned to particular aircraft (identified by tail numbers). Crew Pairing information can be used to produce crew friendly aircraft rotations leading to lower crew costs and more stable on the day-of-operation. Carmen Tail Assignment can also use revenue information for optimal changes in the fleet assignment. Carmen Tail Assignment is fully integrated with Carmen Rave, which offers extensive simulation capabilities.

neutral  philgoddard: I'm not sure about this. It's not clear whether they are using "ruta" and "línea" as synonyms, or whether they mean different things. And why "corte"?

We will use the name Aircraft Assignment to denote the general problem of assigning aircraft to flights. Tail Assignment is the name we have chosen for our specific approach to aircraft assignment. The name tail assignment comes from the fact that individual aircraft are identified by their tail numbers, and that the tail assignment problem considers individual aircraft.
