I really am not sure if this is just "public atributes". I certainly can't find any reliable references. This is from acomparative study on Iron Age ivory combs and bone plates:

Como se ha indicado, para llevar a cabo este trabajo nos hemos basado en la Teoría de la Herencia Cultural, aplicando métodos que incluyen tanto el objeto como el conocimiento (McClure 2011).
Para ello hemos desarrollado una serie de índices relacionados con diferentes aspectos de la cadena operativa. Algunos referidos a atributos públicos de los objetos, visibles y fácilmente sujetos a procesos de interacción social y transmisión horizontal, como la decoración. Otros, en cambio, se refieren a atributos privados, es decir, aquellos que reflejan procesos de producción que no resultan perceptibles en el producto final.

I think it would be wrong to go looking for other ways of saying it - a literal translation works fine.

The analysis was ...divided into 'public' and 'private' attributes. These are attributes that are equally important in the production of the vessel, but differ in their implications for contemporary perceptions of pottery.

El original hace referencia a características "accesibles", "a la vista de todos", de determinados objetos. Así, overt characteristics diría funciona bien como traducción en este caso.
