counterparty

Explanation:
Counterpart is a thing complementary to another, a general term; while counterparty refers to the second party in a legal or financial transaction. In this case, both terms in Spanish would translate into the English counterparty!

neutral  philgoddard: I agree that they both seem to mean counterparty, but then what does the whole sentence mean? It doesn't make sense to me.

-> Thank you, Phil! I would agree with Juan Arturo for this particular phrase, that the original text was referring to "main party" and "counterparty" (seller and buyer, for currency exchange).

agree  Robert Carter: Exactly, in English, each party on the opposite end of a transaction is a counterparty.

agree  Andrea Capuselli: You're right! I think "main party" is most appropriate for "principal/contrapartida", principal wouldn't sound natural in this context.
