I don't entirely agree with Jane's last comment.
Not every wall/ barrier will need an expansion joint; some of these will have standard "construction joints". The point is that radon can enter a construction through any kind of opening (such as a joint) unless it is sealed.

Therefore an example sentence could be:
walls which need expansion joints OR which create construction joints.

Hi Carmen, thanks for this. I don't think construction joints makes any sense..."Below we show how the radon gas easily penetrates walls which need expansion joints and they (the walls?) create construction joints???" It would make more sense for it to mean "walls which need expansion joints and which create joints needing anti-radon measures" or something similar.

Thank you for your answer. These are the sentences:

Los materiales óptimos para crear una barrera anti radón deben cumplir tres requisitos básicos: estanqueidad, Continuidad y Adaptabilidad.
A continuación se puede observar cómo el gas radón penetra fácilmente a través de barreras que necesitan juntas de dilatación y crean juntas de ejecución.
Sin embargo, el poliuretano proyectado se presenta como sistema efectivo de barrera anti radón en edificios de obra nueva.

I think it might mean that where there are expansion joints, this creates a space where radon can build up so will need some kind of radon control implementing (ejecuccion). I could be wrong but would need more context to be sure. What are the sentences before and after this?
