[End of section]

This appears in an academic paper on migration by Italian workers to the mines of Coahuila, Mexico, in the late 19th/early 20th centuries.

I don't normally work in technical translations and know next to nothing about engineering, so this has thrown me a bit. If my understanding is correct, they're talking about the framework they used to dig out the tunnels, but I don't understand the "ajuste cuadrado" bit, or what it involves (which may also help me decide between "joiners" and "carpenters").
For what it's worth, my attempt at the last part so far is:
... while others were trained by the same company to work as joiners using the new square adjustment method to build the framework with wooden beams that lined the tunnels.

... but I'm really not sure. I'd appreciate some input from someone with experience in this field.
Into U.S. English.

You're welcome, Joshua.
I would assume that the "método de ajuste" will be implied, somehow, in the overall context.

Hi John, thanks for your input, and sorry for the delay; I was waiting for a response from the client and got sidetracked with another project.
The client/author told me to leave this part simply as "square timber support (for mining tunnels)" although I'm not sure this accounts for the "método de ajuste" part, which is what I was struggling with. ¡Saludos!
