Asker: This is the text in Spanish: La estudiante antes mencionada ha superado con aprovechamiento el contenido y pruebas de evaluación del curso.Calificación: Sobresaliente. (Diploma from Spain).-

Asker: Sorry I forgot to include the full sentence in Spanish which is: La estudiante antes mencionada ha superado con aprovechamiento el contenido y pruebas de evaluación del curso. CALIFICACION: SOBRESALIENTE which I translated as follows: Grade: With Distinction.

disagree  philgoddard: I can't see anything about high marks, and you wouldn't say something that vague on a certificate.

Pass with Merit

Explanation:
Pass with Merit indicates the range of good achievement up to Pass with Distinction, which demonstrates an ability at Council of Europe Level B2. Level A2 covers the range of ability between weak and borderline. The total number of marks available in the examination is 100. Marks are converted to a standardised score.

Pass (5 to 6.9) = 1, Good (7 to 8.9) = 2, Merit (9 to 10) = 3, Distinction (Merit with distinction) = 4.

neutral  philgoddard: Your reference doesn't prove anything, except that "pass with merit" is a phrase in English. Cristina has translated it as "distinction", but I think that may be wrong. We shouldn't be guessing with something like this.

Pass with achievements

Explanation:
As in the sentence is referred to “aprovechamiento académico” because we are talking about grades and evaluations, the term in English would be “achievements” referring to “academic achievements”.

I would say something like "successfully completed the course and examinations". The Spanish is very wordy, and you shouldn't reproduce this in your translation.

Does it actually say "With distinction"?

Note to reference poster
Asker: Does it actually say "With distinction"? Yes, it says: Calificación: Sobresaliente. The original diploma is from Spain. I translated thus: Grade: With Distinction. I have seen British diplomas and they use With Distinction which in Spanish is Sobresaliente (American English: Outstanding). Regards

agree  Adrian MM.: albeit there is no indication of the source-country. What it means in Venezuela may be 'with relish' elsewhere https://www.proz.com/kudoz/spanish-to-english/education-peda...
