spans Explanation: The distance between two adjacent supports for the power line would commonly be known as the "span" between the two towers. Example (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhead_power_line): "A compact overhead transmission line requires a smaller right of way than a standard overhead powerline. Conductors must not get too close to each other. This can be achieved either by short span lengths and insulating crossbars, or by separating the conductors in the span with insulators. The first type is easier to build as it does not require insulators in the span, which may be difficult to install and to maintain." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day10 hrs (2016-06-13 21:12:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Taña's answer is certainly correct. Which term the translator might choose would depend partly on who the target audience is. "Span" is no doubt more often used in common speech; "tensioning length" might be more appropriate in specifications or other formal documents. |

(Figura 5.13) http://e-archivo.uc3m.es/bitstream/handle/10016/9749/PFC_Zac... (see page 75) and Here: https://www.arema.org/publications/ and ENGLISH PICTURE with this text (See Figure 9): https://www.arema.org/publications/pgre/Practical_Guide/PGCh... (this is working, but I have no idea where this text comes from, but the idea is:) 3.2.4 Tensioning lengths A uniform contact wire height at different ambient and wire temperatures can be achieved by mounting the contact wire and catenary wire so that they can be flexibly tensioned. In the case of the Sicat LA overhead contact line, **tensioning sections of up to 2000 m are permissible.*** The tensioning length is limited by the gear ratio of the tensioning assembly and the ambient temperature range, temperature increases in the conductors due to the current, the possible travel of cantilevers and weights and the resetting forces at the cantilever in track radii. A tensioning length of the catenary contact line includes the mid-point of the catenary wire and the contact wire with the mid-point anchors and Z-type anchors as well as the tensioning devices at both ends for the catenary wire and the contact wire. The catenary wire and the contact wire can be anchored to a mid-point not only together but also separately. The mid-point anchor is always at the middle of the tensioning length. So, mechanical tensioning sections/tensioning lengths. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days2 hrs (2016-06-15 13:56:36 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- A la orden, Nicolae. |
