agree  philgoddard: It, not them - equipment is an uncountable noun. And this is a very roundabout way of saying "is designed to be earthquake proof".

agree  Manuel Aburto: Right! In this case "solicitaciones" is translated as "stresses". Agree with Phil. And I guess, you can also use "sustain" instead of "withstand", according to what I've read.
