Tech/Engineering - Engineering: Industrial / Boiler explosion in food processing plant
Spanish term or phrase: consumos punta [de vapor]
Hi Kudozers,

This is from SP Spanish to UK English.

Taken from a report into the causes behind the explosion of a boiler in a food processing plant.
The author is presenting the time line of events leading up to the boiler's failure. At this point the auxiliary boiler (which suffered the explosion) is stopped for repairs and the text below discusses the main boiler:

"El [date, time], se para la otra caldera [main boiler] por nivel bajo de agua, y el operador de caldera la rearma inmediatamente sin extrañar ni alertar al operador ya que cuando la planta funciona con una sola caldera, su capacidad no es suficiente ***para cubrir consumos punta de vapor*** y puede producirse algún paro normal."

I understand the operator did not think it unusual that the main boiler had stopped, as one boiler alone is typically insufficient to cover the plant's needs, as mentioned elsewhere in the text. But what does "consumos punta de vapor" mean? "Vapour point consumption" makes no sense.

The only think I can imagine is an error for "consumos puntuales de vapor", but the rest of the document does not contain such obvious errors (I have the originals). It has me a little stumped, or am I missing something obvious?
Help appreciated. TIA
