Spanish term or phrase: periodos (de interés) inmediatos superior e inferior
From a section of a loan contract on how interest is calculated...

Caso de que no existiera cotización para el periodo de interés elegido, se calculará para un periodo de interés intermedio entre los ***periodos inmediatos superior e inferior***, y en su defecto, para el periodo de Interés «ras próximo al periodo de interés elegido que corresponda.

I cant think how to say this neatly

English translation:immediately longer and immediately shorter interest rate periods
Explanation:
If there is no rate for the period chosen, an average will be calculated using the rates for the immediately longer and immediately shorter interest rate periods.

LIBOR rates are calculated for seven borrowing periods ranging from overnight to one year (30, 60, 90 days etc.) If you need a rate for 40 days, say, you average the 30 and 60 day rates, for example

neutral  philgoddard: I don't see how they can be "current". They have to be before or after the current period.

longer and shorter rests

Explanation:
Having been initially thrown by the higher and lower interes-rate answer, I'm unsure the word of immediate needs (to) be incorporated, nor even the word of periods need (to) go in.

Anyway, it is a rest and not interest reset period.

The old-chestnut argument of few g/hits, alas, is as usual not in line with commercial, banking or legal drafting practice.

Example sentence(s):
  • Unfortunately, ‘rest’ does not refer to relaxation. It is simply defined as the time frame at which the principal amount is reduced as you repay the loan.
  • Once a while, you may hear that this home loan product is on monthly rest and another is on daily rest. You hear people saying that daily rest loans are cheaper while someone else says they prefer to have a monthly rest housing loan.
