"vulgar," it is rather "colloquially humorous" to my Castilian ears. It is used very often when drinking, but I can be used for solid food. In the more or less formal register of the context provided, the expression comes across as if with a touch of colloquial humor. Cecilia gives the right DRAE definition. It has nothing to do with "eating a lot" or "eating fast" but "meter" gives this quote "vulgar" unquote touch. By the by, the glossary entry probably would have to have "without having to" in parenthesis? |
