From a book on Spanish railways for translation to British English, referring to the layout of the routes, in this case seems to be relating to a feature of the river course:

"El paso aprovecha la captura del pequeño río Magaña sobre la Sierra Morena, para meter por ese boquete las comunicaciones, que antes iban por las alturas ..."

"La captura del [río] Jalón fue la brecha natural de comunicación entre la depresión del Ebro con el valle del Tajo."

I think it is capture, explanation of river capture below, they took advantage of this for link up with other forms of transport.

The diversion (capture) of the headwaters of one river into a neighbouring river. River capture occurs when a stream is carrying out rapid headward erosion (backwards erosion at its source). Eventually the stream will cut into the course of a neighbouring river, causing the headwaters of that river to be diverted, or ‘captured’.

The headwaters will then flow down to a lower level (often making a sharp bend, called an elbow of capture) over a steep slope, called a knickpoint. A waterfall will form here. Rejuvenation then occurs, causing rapid downwards erosion. An excellent example is the capture of the River Burn by the River Lyd, Devon, England.

From the abstract of this paper, looks like it backs up river capture as a valid term here:

studies, as well as stable isotope analysis and Uranium/Thorium and Amino Acid Racemization dating have made it possible to determine that the Rio Blanco deposits are of Lower (?)-Middle Pleistocene and Upper Pleistocene age, showing predominantly
lacustrine and barrier-cascade-backfilling environmental conditions respectively, this suggesting late capture by the Jalon river.

Explanation:
I have found a definition of "captura":

Captura
Absorción de un río más débil y pequeño, por otro más impetuoso y fuerte. El curso del primero es desviado en beneficio del segundo. Este fenómeno se debe a la erosión del agua en las orillas.

but it does not make any sense in your context no. 1 because I cannot find any indication that the Magaña flows into another river at this point, whether it be the River Jalón or another one.

The only reference I can find to place (1) is as follows:

I suggest "hollow" rather than "basin" given that it seems the land at this point is not flat but sloping.
