Spanish term or phrase: luminarias dispuestas en líneas cruzadas
From a H&S guide, in the lighting section.

No es recomendable el uso de tubos fluorescentes sin apantallar, ni luminarias dispuestas en líneas cruzadas.

I can't imagine how this would be, or why it would be a bad thing. I've looked at a number of H&S guides in English but while reference is made to "unshielded fluorescent tubes" I can't see any refences to anything that sounds like this.

Any ideas?

lights mounted perpendicular

Explanation:
The lights must form an X, if they were parallel, they'd form an =.

Example sentence(s):
  • Although the fixtures can be mounted either parallel or perpendicular to the car bay, mounting them perpendicular provides the best lighting
