Spanish term or phrase: registrando
My current PC interface is in Spanish, so I'm not sure about the correct English translation of the message "Error registrando la sesión" which comes up on some internet sites.

session registration error
Explanation:
Actually "registrando" by itself did not convey the meaning required by the context. You were in the right track, though. One needs only to turn "registering session" into a proper English construction.

Please note that "session registration" is the proper technical term. It encompasses more than "login"/"iniciar"

Asker: The EDI software I'm dealing with already uses a "login" command. I think the answer is "registering" but would like confirmation (I found "Error registering session" on a Cisco website)

Asker: This is as close as it gets. The client wants me to use the most literal translation -"Error registering session" - because the software is for Mexico and Spain...

Yes, neilmac, you are right, specially when one is trying Portuguese, Spanish, French and English at the same time. It happens to me a lot.
We have to suggest the English speaking people to write the same way they read. If it is pronounced as a C why do they write with a T?

Notes to answerer
Asker: The "c" in "initiating" is one I think I picked up from living in Spain too long; I always have to double check to make sure I've spelt "negotiate" correctly!

disagree  coolbrowne: In fact, "registrar sessión" goes beyond just starting. And there is no "iniciating" in English. The "disagree" option has its purpose, which is technical, not personal. Incidentally, I will continue to refrain from making personal remarks.

-> Gotcha, coolbrowne. I was wandering if you would spot the error. I have noticed you have well documented comments. Your problem is trying to shoot down everybody else. Then you get back nasty comments. Refrain from disagreeing. Just be positive.
