A defence, not necessarily of either answer, could encompass in ENG law automatism, namelyy committing a crime whilist sleep walking but not under the influence of alocohol or drugs, depending on whether the offence is one of 'general / the crime is a byproduct or specific intent / the crime is intended'.

Self-defence is an absolute defence in ENG law, the culpability depending on the degree of force used.

Either way, the textbook criminal law negative form of culpability is non-culpability and unblameworthy - it is a word - is just another way of expressing the idea.

I can confirm definitions of my chosen word 'blamelessness', which defines a state of being not guilty (without guilt) in connection with something.:
