(entidades) economía popular y solidaria social and solidarity economy (organisations) Explanation: Have a look here: "Social and Solidarity Economy [...] We consider whether Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) organisations (i.e. co-operatives, mutual societies and community- based organisations) bring these two perspectives together and promote a different kind of inclusive development." http://www.open.ac.uk/ikd/events/social-and-solidarity-econo... ___________ And here: "The Social and Solidarity Economy in Ecuador: opportunities and challenges Summary : Although increasing attention has been paid in recent years to the importance of the social and solidarity economy in Latin America, there has been little written specically about the Andean region. This study contributes to this knowledge gap through an exploration of the social and solidarity economy model in Ecuador. The research offers insight into the historical factors that have contributed to the development of the social and solidarity economy and idenfies the different institutional environments in which the sector operates highlighting the opportunities and challenges that exist." http://www.socioeco.org/bdf_fiche-document-5118_en.html ___________ Loads more out there: https://tinyurl.com/y36hsma3 |

social and inclusive economy Explanation: Plenty of translations with "solidarity" out there, but that word often doesn't sit easily for me and I think this is better. First, what is it? Here are the principles as set out in the relevant law: "- La búsqueda del buen vivir y del bien común; - La prelación del trabajo sobre el capital y de los intereses colectivos sobre los individuales; - El comercio justo y consumo ético y responsable; - La equidad de género; - El respeto a la identidad cultural; - La autogestión; - La responsabilidad social y ambiental, la solidaridad y rendición de cuentas; y, - La distribución equitativa y solidaria de excedentes." The word "inclusive" is relevant to several of these (gender, cultural identity, worker involvement) and is used by a couple of big hitters. First, the EU: "Lastly, the National Institute of the Popular and Inclusive Economy (Instituto Nacional de Economía Popular y Solidaria (IEPS) has been created under the MIES to articulate a new economic vision for inclusive growth with autonomy in developing a strategic objective." https://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/sites/devco/files/erd5-countr... (p. 8) I think "social" is better than "popular", but it's a moot point. That's the OECD's choice in its Country Notes on Ecuador: "The economic axis presents a vision of a social and inclusive economy." http://www.oecd.org/dev/americas/Ecuador-Country-Note-Leo-20... Ecuador aside, "Social and Inclusive Economy" seems to be a "thing": "support strategy for the new social and inclusive economy models" http://ec.europa.eu/DocsRoom/documents/15121/attachments/15/... |

co-operatives, mutual societies, and community-based organisations Explanation: I think we should bear the context in mind: it's not some airy-fairy policy document about making the world a better place, it's about tax. Your job as translator is to give the reader a clear idea of what organisations are being referred to, and I don't think any of the three previous suggestions does this. James's first reference says "cooperatives, mutual societies and community-based organisations", and I think this gives a far clearer idea of the meaning. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 7 hrs (2019-08-13 16:09:11 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- You could include the Spanish if necessary, followed by my translation in brackets. Just a suggestion! |

> bodies < in public ownership and the social economy Explanation: The term of economía is also a micro-economic concept of capital ownership e.g. una Sociedad de economía mixta - a joint-venture private and public Company. Here 'solidaria' is redolent of social ownership and socialist or even communist by another name. The political reality: the USA would not tolerate yet another Socialist-to-Communist Country or Caribbean island on its southern doorstep. Compare in the ex-GDR: VEB - Volkseigene Betriebe: people's owned - nationalised - enterprises and LPG - Landesproduktionsgenossenschaften - agricultural co-ops. Example sentence(s):
