breeding cows (covered) / overwintered cows Explanation: DRAE entorar Conjugar el verbo entorar 1. tr. rur. Arg. y Ur. Echar el toro a las vacas para que las sirva Word Ref: 29. cover (esp. of a male animal) to copulate with. Sub-fertile bulls are the bigger problem. The non-fertile bull will leave tell-tale signs with covered cows showing signs of heat three or six weeks later https://www.independent.ie/business/farming/stock-bull-versu... DRAE 3. f. cows ready for (first ?) mating / out-wintered cows Explanation: On Linguee: For "entoradas" I found a reference to cows ready for their first mating: "La precocidad de la raza permite el entore a menor edad, lo que significa mayor utilidad económica. jerseyargentina.com.ar "The early maturity of the cow allows the first mating at an early age, which turns into a higher economic utility." The out-wintered cows, on the other hand, are pregnant. They will be calving in the spring instead of breeding. See: Out-Wintering of Cattle:Management and Precautions - The Cattle Site www.thecattlesite.com/articles/.../outwintering-of-cattlema... Jan 15, 2013 - Out-wintering really only applies to adult beef cows calving in the spring. **Young calves and store cattle should only be out-wintered** if they are in areas of the UK which have reliably mild winter weather conditions. Out-wintered spring-calving beef cows trying to find shelter from the prevailing wind. |
