Por ejemplo, la publicidad desarrollada por Unilever en su crema blanqueadora Fair and Lovely en India, ha sido vista como promotora de la exclusión racial en ese país (Karnani, 2007). Otro ejemplo son los empaques unitarios “Sachets”, en productos como jabón, shampoo y detergente que generan una mayor cantidad de desechos no biodegradables (Davidson, 2009). El análisis de estos estudios sugiere que la causa de estos problemas radica en aproximarse a los mercados de subsistencia mediante estrategias tradicionalmente utilizadas en mercados de abundancia.
