Spanish term or phrase: Trayecto y recorrido
This is a study about car use in cities. In this context:

"A partir de las señales que envían cada uno de los vehículos hemos creado dos nuevas variables:
Trayecto y Recorrido"

I need to clearly contrast "trayecto" and "recorrido". More context would be necessary but I don't have it. So, this is how I see it for the moment:

"From the signals transmitted by each of the cars we have created two new variables:
Route and Itinerary/distance/etc.?"

Although 'trayecto' could refer to 'distance'. I think you would need to ask the client to be 100% sure.

Hi Eugenio, if you believe that 'trayecto' is 'distance' and 'recorrido' is the total, then you have 'distance' and 'total distance' / 'distance covered', though I'm not sure about that as I have no context to go on.

neutral  Lisa McCarthy: 'Course' is only used to refer to rivers and races. Wouldn't work in this context.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hello Lisa: Long time not see. Thank you for your always helpful comments. I think that "trayecto" refers to "distance", and "recorrido" means adding up the distances. So, in such case, what would be your option for "Trayecto y recorrido"?

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Helena Chavarria: I think I would use 'journey' and 'distance covered'. I'm just thinking of when we say 'durante el trayecto', 'a lo largo del trayecto', etc.

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Thomas Walker: If these are in fact two variables for the study referred to, they have to be definite, quantifiable entities. 'Distance' & 'Route' meet this criterion, whereas some of the other suggestions, for example 'journey,' don't seem to be like that.
4 hrs

agree  Toni Castano: Fully agree with TomWalker´s explanation.
12 hrs

agree  Werner Maurer: Yes. Since recorrido could refer either to total distance period or to total distance thus far, "distance" preserves that ambiguity nicely, and is equally usable in whichever of the two senses the writer intended.
