Spanish term or phrase: poner las coordenadas y hacer girar el barco
This is a promotional interview with a head of a private nursing home in Spain. She's talking about how they changed things around to create more of a client focus:

Empezamos a adaptarnos más a los clientes, mas flexibles, pensando en lo que el cliente necesita.
Empezamos a llevar a cabo mas encuestas y a poner en marcha cambios para ***poner las coordenadas y hacer girar el barco.***

My attempt: We started to conduct more surveys, implement changes towards a new direction and shake things up.

I'm not sure this is the right meaning or if there's a more correct/better way to put it.

Any ideas?

agree  Jackie Bowman: Yes, I think I'd also go for something a bit literal like this. She sounds like a Star Trek fan. I haven't watched it since I was aboout 12 but didn't they always have to "put in new coordinates and change course"?

plot the course and bring this ship around

Explanation:
If you're going to keep the maritime metaphor - and I see no reason why you shouldn't - I'd suggest using terms you'd hear on a ship's bridge. In particular, mariners: plot a course and bring (a ship) around.
