I think that the easiest thing here is to use cloth, veil or shroud doesn't capture the meaning, It's referring just to the cloth, not to a veil in it's more common sense.

If you see DRAE, they are using it for it's first meaning:

I think that the easiest thing here is to use cloth, veil or shroud doesn't capture the meaning, It's referring just to the cloth, not to a veil in it's more common sense.
