principal or lead violin
Explanation:

First violin

Explanation:
First violin es correcto.

"The lead or primary violin role in an orchestra or other ensemble, or in a musical composition, that typically contains the melody and is often more technically demanding than the second violin role. The first violin role is played by a first violinist, typically the best violinist in the orchestra."

neutral  philgoddard: According to your reference, "first violin" referring to the leader of the violin section is UK English. Patinba's answer avoids this ambiguity.

-> Yes, something simple. Thank you!

agree  Thomas Walker: "Principal violin(ist)" is a well-defined term in orchestra world: it is the 1st chair player in the 1st violin section; traditionally also the concertmaster of the orchestra. I think "lead violin" is descriptive, but not traditionally used.

First chair, first violin is called “concertmaster.” First chair, 2nd violin is “Principal Second.” First chair viola, cell and bass are all “Principals” also, of their respective sections. Same with brass and woodwind sections.
