Levantamiento iconográfico

English translation: Image/picture search

Spanish term or phrase: Levantamiento iconográfico
This is a service that a publishing house offers (it also sells photos from its archives). I suppose "photo survey" might work, but that phrase is often used to mean to "take a survey of X (land or whatever) using photography". This is for marketing purposes, so I'd like to not only get it right but make it sound good, too.

Levantamiento iconográfico del tema en cuestión para la solicitud de tomas fotográficas por los mejores especialistas, ya sea en formato digital o análogo.

Explanation:
Image is much more common than picture if Google is anything to go by.

I think the text would need a lot of paraphrasing - something like: "Image search, which involves contacting leading specialists for digital or analogue pictures on a specific theme". I think the specialists may be libraries rather than photographers.

Thanks again, Phil! And thanks to Mediamatrix and Tara for their input. I know that this is what is meant even if it loses something in the translation!

iconography

Explanation:
I would forget about the 'levantamiento', which is tautologous in English, and just put the keyword 'iconography', explained here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iconography
Iconography in disciplines other than art history
Iconography, often of aspects of popular culture, is a concern of other academic disciplines including Semiotics, Anthropology, Sociology, Media Studies and Cultural Studies. These analyses in turn have affected conventional art history, especially concepts such as signs in semiotics Discussing imagery as iconography in this way implies a critical "reading" of imagery that often attempts to explore social and cultural values. Iconography is also used within film studies to describe the visual language of cinema, particularly within the field of genre criticism.

agree  Tara Orzolek: This sounds closer to what it probably is than iconography. See my discussion entry.

-> Thanks Tara! I think this might be a slightly pretentious way of saying something like "buscado de imagenes". Levantamiento iconografico gets almost no Google hits.
