chapter headpiece Explanation: If you want a technical term, this is it. A headpiece is any illustration placed at the start of a chapter or section of a book or manuscript; an illustration at the end is called a tailpiece. It can be just a little ornament, or a full-scale picture. "HEADPIECE = An ornament or vignette at the start of a chapter." http://www.blytonbooks.co.uk/help/glossary_text_only.php "Headpiece for Chapter One" See illustration http://www.victorianweb.org/art/illustration/selous/7.html "Opening chapter headpiece" (last item on page) http://www.csm.arts.ac.uk/museum/object.php?objectid=3284 |
