Etablering

Swedish to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
This is for a kommun's English language website. It's the business section, talking about attracting new businesses to the area and the help the kommun offfers in 'establishment' process.

I find it a very blunt term. I think it generally means 'setting up a business', which is how I usually translate it.

But when someone's job title is, "Näringslivsutvecklare, etablering" that makes it a little more tricky. How to translate it pithily?

Any ideas? I'm a bit stuck.

"Fyra anställda näringslivsutvecklare, två med ansvar över befintliga företag i kommunen och två med ansvar för etableringar. Näringslivsenheten arbetar aktivt och uppsökande för ett bättre näringslivsklimat."

This would suggest quite clearly that it is about attracting businesses to the area, as you suggested. The US seems to use the term "Business Attraction Management" so how about Business Attraction Manager.

Andrew, to me etablering is about getting businesses to move into the area, not helping them to become established

Is there any chance that the best word for this might actually be "establishment". The post is obviously a Business Development Officer and the intention is to attract businesses to a particular geographical area. Once attracted, they need to establish themselves and personally, I think the word "establishment" is fine.

that might be a goer. It still has a wee tang of the 'start-ups' about it, but it's the closest we've got.

Possibly just pluralis/ze set-up as would be widely understood.

Business launch Googles oft as a 'business lunch'.

NB the UK textbook term of 'company promotion' doesn't work for a partnership whereas IMO, formation works for both.

Maybe you - or we then - ought to be looking at establishment (Gullberg > set-up) preliminaries (frais d'établissement in FRE = prelim. expenses).
