artistic symbols Explanation: The word "bomärke" is, in this context, an untranslatable play on words. "Bomärke" normally means "owner's mark", but it is composed of "bo" meaning "nest; home" and "märke" meaning "mark" and this provides the contextual meaning. Since the play on words is untranslatable I recommend you to replace "bomärken" with someting (anything) that fits and flows in your text, like "artistic symbols". |

(owners'/makers') signatures; owners'/makers' marks Explanation: A "bomärke" was a unique signature put by the owner/maker on their property in place of a handwritten signature. Ref. Nordisk Familjebok (Uggleupplagan) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2008-10-30 23:55:56 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- If, as it appears to be in this case, the buildings are new, perhaps "traditional owners's signatures or marks" should be used. graphic details Explanation: If you google the word "bomärke" and look on pictures for the word it will be more clear for you. As we have not seen the development it is hard to know exactly how this mark will look so I would go for a more non-descriptive choice. This will cover it all. Artistic details would be an alternative. |
