Turkish term or phrase: katsayı tartışmaları
Greetings,

During the discussion about whether İmam Hatip pupils should be eligible for university (have I understood that rightly?), the phrase “katsayı tartışmaları” came up on the screen.

All the best, and many thanks,

coefficient system discussions
Explanation:
In Turkey, a coefficient system is used to calculate the scores of the high school graduates for the university admission exam.

Example:

Civil society denounces court decision on coefficient system
A Council of State ruling calling for a stay on the abolishment of a system that uses a lower coefficient to calculate the scores of graduates of vocational high schools on Turkey's university admission exam has drawn the ire of civil society organizations, which termed the ruling “unlawful.”

You're welcome.

Regular high school students have their exam points multiplied by, let's say (I don't know the exact coefficients), 0,8 for their final results whereas Imam Hatip students -and the students of other vocational schools- have theirs multiplied rather by 0,3. Therefore, the regular high school students achieve a higher final result than the İmam Hatip students who have exactly the same university admission exam score; so this is a disadvantageous condition for Imam Hatip students.

The idea in revoking this coefficient practice is to eliminate this unfair scoring system.

coefficient/multiplier debates

Explanation:
It is talking about the multiplier that is apparently different for İmam Hatip and other schools.

The controversy over coefficients

Explanation:
I do not disagree with the other suggestions, but I think in English we often use 'controversy' to refer to this kind of heated and widespread public debate about government policy.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Many thanks – let’s try and pin this down. Do you mean, for instance, that pupils of other kinds of high school still have their exam points multiplied perhaps by 8 for their final results whereas perhaps Imam Hatip pupils do not have their exam points multiplied by 8 any more but rather by 10 or 12 for their final results? Is the idea to even out perceived disadvantages?
