Explanation:
This oblong metal clip (cable ferrule) slides over the free end of the cable and must be firmly secured. It is an integral safety feature of the cable socket and wedge to prevent the free end of the cable from slipping through the socket when uploading occurs. It also prevents the free end of the cable from fraying resulting in loose strands of wire projecting and causing an injury.
