Yan sanayi en basit anlamda ana sanayiye mal veren (eski dilde "tedarik" eden), ana sanayi olduğu için kurulan ve ayakta kalan bir üretim üssüdür. TOFAŞ, RENAULT, TOYOTA, HONDA vb. neden hepsi MARMARA bölgesinde, çünkü yan sanayi orada, nakliye maliyetlerini düşürmek, kalife elemana yakın olmak ve limanların yanında bulunmak için.
