Ladder, steps... Explanation: It is actually used as a spiral but you have to picture the spiral in your mind and connect it with the sentence here. It is like a ladder and you start from bottom and go your way up to top. So the cultural world is going up the ladder of conscious, wisdom and information..Cultural world is improving -enhancing-getting better-it's way in those sectors. This is my interpretation of the word. You can even say the world of information, wisdom and conscious. Sarmal is not the most essential word here to give the sentence it's meaning. Hope it helps. It is dialectical helix or spiral of knowledge.Contrary to idealist circular knowledge approach materialist (dialictic) approach developed an epistomological point of view taking knowledge developing as (not simple circles but) but spiral way upward. idealst approcah claimed there was no new things to learn or new knowedge but only repating the past(circular).
