Konut sahibi olmanın gecekonucuya sağladığı güvencenin önemi, literatürde çok işlenmiş bir konudur. Olgu, gecekondunun ekonomik mekanda çökmesini sağlama açısından güvenceli, sürekli bir iş sahibi olmak derecesinde önem taşımaktadır.

Here, I guess that 'çökmek' must have the meanıng of 'settle down', whıch would correspond to meanıng 8 of 'çökmek' in the 'Türk Dil Kurumu Türkçe Sözlük' : '(Tortu) Dibe inmek'. I have never seen 'çökmek' used in quite this way before. What do you think?

The writer could be using one of their newest meaningless definitions.
