Bio

[introduction omitted for the sake of brevity, which is a soul of wit]

In short, I do transcreation. I enjoy subtle word play and complex projects. With over nine years of experience and over 5 000 000 words translated and reviewed, I’m armed and ready for the most challenging tasks. My professional services shall help you increase sales among the Russian audience. I promise.

My extensive experience narrows into a few areas:

1. General IT.
Need a convincing landing page for a software product? Your app store page requires some love? The user manual should look good in Russian? Contact me – I've got you covered. I've done great stuff for Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, IBM and EMC and I can do even more for you.
Major end customers and projects: Oracle (software localization; highly respected by editors at Oracle Russia), Microsoft (security bulletins), SAP (BusinessObjects and other software), InfoPrint (professional printing equipment), EMC/Neusoft (data storage: documentation and software, plus testing), Razer (professional gaming devices: product leaflets), Toshiba (documentation), Lenovo, OpenText, Opera, BMC, Hitachi, Fujitsu-Siemens, Dell, Systran, Valve, Yahoo!.

2. Server hardware and networking
[writing in progress, 35% complete]

3. IT and high-tech marketing
Some say, that a good technology sells itself. While this might be true in certain situations, even the most advanced tech needs some help from the bookworm and a wordnerd. Whatever you might have – latest computer hardware and software, advanced home appliances, industrial electronics and robotics, laser-phosphor projectors, ERP and CRM systems, latest AI developments – I shall use your marketing materials as a foundation to construct a unique message, fully reflecting the original and perfectly aimed at your Russian clientele.
Major end customers and projects: Christie Digital (display technologies and equipment (brochures, manuals, datasheets, research papers, websites), business/finance (training manuals, presentations, business cases and solutions), PVD (laser equipment).

4. Business and HR
Advertisements, administrative documents. surveys, training materials, scorecards, personnel development and onboarding documentation, standards, lesson plans, corporate communications (newsletters, letters from the CEO, newspapers, etc.)— I translate all that and much more. This is where creative adaptation and transcreation come in handy.
Major end customers and projects: Mars (marcom, corporate newspaper, website, subtitles), SPIEF ’11, ’12 and ’13 (conference speeches), DHL (letters from the CEO).

5. Finance
I know a great deal about banking, investments, stock markets and FOREX. Rich clients expect the best linguistic quality, so the proper tone and wording are of utmost importance. By meeting this expectation, I open the door to mutually profitable collaboration wide open.
Major end clients and projects: financial authorities, FOREX brokers, private banking institutions.

6. Videogames
As an old school gamer, I’d love to collaborate with an indie developer on a mobile game or a full-fledged PC release. Please e-mail me to find out more.

7. Fiction and non-fiction
I’m an avid reader and a keen writer. My experience in this field is quite ample – I’ve worked on extracts from James Joyce, John Galsworthy, J.R.R. Tolkien, Tash Aw, Natasha Rhodes, Jackie Kay, Marion Coutts, Jeanette Winterson and Joanne Rowling. Short stories, articles, blog posts, books of fantasy and fiction – I shall carefully replicate your tone and style, boldly apply the proper creative writing techniques and make your content shine.

Notable achievements
1. Proz.com translation contest “The Tomatina Revolution”, first place.
2. Shortlisted as the “Best translator of the year 2014” by Eclectic Translations.

Software Trados 2021 is the weapon of choice. MemoQ 9 comes second. Professional user of Trados (but who isn't, eh?). Plenty of experience with Microsoft LocStudio 6.1, Microsoft Helium 6.1, Oracle HyperHub, Idiom 9.0 and Catalyst 7.0. Some knowledge of SDL Passolo and DejaVu X3. Productivity applications: Office 365 and OpenOffice.org.

Throughput and availability
I’m available for work five days a week inside my working hours (8 AM – 4 PM, GMT time). You may reach me by sending an e-mail or a Telegram message (@kirborisov). While at the desk, I reply almost immediately.

My personal daily throughput is 2,500 words. Burst throughput is 4,000 words (extreme urgency only).

Shortest delivery time is 24 hours. Anything more urgent doubles the rate. I never work on weekends.
