Whilst the specification of the correct access hardware for an enclosure need not be overly complicated, it can never be a case of ‘one size fits all’. The latching and hinging solution is integral to the success of an enclosure design and should, therefore, be integral to the design process.
To help select the best options for any application, the design engineers have identified some key considerations for access hardware in enclosure applications, all of which impact enclosure performance, security and economy.
The first step to selecting the right solution is to identify the primary performance characteristics for the individual application and then match these with the appropriate existing access hardware option, or use the application design considerations as the input parameters for a new access hardware custom design.
For example, are you looking for quick, simple, economical latching alternatives? Do you need a degree of flexibility to compensate for variations in material dimensions or changing grip dimensions? If the answer to those questions is ‘yes’, cam latches can be a cost-effective answer.
On the other hand, the application may require gaskets or environmental sealing to satisfy specific industry standards or to provide general protection against dust, rain of electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI). Such applications may be best suited to compression latches with the specific style chosen based on the enclosure design and installation environment. Other factors that could steer you towards compression latches are applications subject to vibration or rattle.
If the convenience of a ‘slam-shut’ operation, with quick and easy enclosure access, is desirable for user-friendly operation, the choice will move towards a push-to-close latch style, either locking or non-locking. If the enclosure has co-planar panels and you need to compensate for some misalignment in the mating of the two panels, a draw latch can actually draw two panels - or a panel and frame – together in the same plane. Different lever-action or rotary-action styles provide varying amounts of draw and can provide relatively high maximum working loads.
In some applications, where enclosure doors cover a large span, a multi-point latching solution can include compression, locking or hidden actuator features for added performance and security.
With a growing need to monitor access to enclosure applications, electronic access technology has moved inside and is fast becoming the preferred method of access management for a vast array of product enclosures. Well-designed electronic access solutions offer heightened security, improved functionality, better traceability and more convenience to a range of exponentially growing applications. Various industry-electronic latching styles available include push-to-close, swinghandle or rotary action. Each latch offers flexibility in access control, such as key pad, card swipe, key fob, biometric reader, or mobile phone.
A similar process is applied to the selection of the hinge, of which there are three major hinge installations: external, embedded or concealed.
If you need to maximize available space inside the enclosure, wish to attach or remove a door without tools, or are looking for a drop-in replacement that meets most standard panel preps, an external hinge might well be the most appropriate option. Mounting options are available to suit most door and frame configurations, and provide easy installation. To suit specific requirements of individual applications, customised solutions are the answer.
For cabinets which require the hinge to be invisible when the door is closed, or where hinges need to be inside the enclosure, concealed hinges that combine hidden mounting with simple installation offer both security and the ability to achieve a sleeker look to the enclosure.
For designs that need to seamlessly integrate position control features, embedded hinges can be designed-in to become an integral part of any application. These hinges allow for a variety of positioning control options while fitting into an existing envelope for both small and large applications. When the requirement for motion management goes beyond a simple rotational motion, such as the need for torque, detent, bi-stable or counterbalance features, custom engineered positioning mechanisms can provide new levels of refinement and functionality to meet any motion management challenge. By having the early involvement of the right access hardware specialists in the design process, costly mistakes can be avoided and the best solution for the application identified and incorporated from the outset to ensure that the integrity of the overall finished design is preserved.

Die Verschluss- und Scharnier-Lösung ist wesentlich für den erfolgreichen Betrieb von IT-und Elektronikschrank-Anwendungen und sollte deshalb auch integraler Bestandteil der Entwicklungsphase sein.
Um die Auswahl der besten Optionen für jeden Einsatzbereich zu erleichtern, haben die Anwendungsingenieure einige Schlüsselmerkmale von Verschlusssystemen für den Einsatz in IT- und Elektronikschränken zusammengestellt, wobei auch Faktoren wie Leistung, Sicherheit und Wirtschaftlichkeit der Schränke beachtet wurden.
Zunächst werden bei der Auswahl der richtigen Lösung die entscheidenden Leistungsmerkmale der speziellen Anwendung bestimmt und mit den Merkmalen des geeigneten Standardprodukts abgeglichen. Oder aber die konstruktiven Merkmale der betreffenden Anwendung werden als Ausgangsparameter für ein neues kundenspezifisches Verschluss-Design verwendet.
Suchen Sie beispielsweise nach schnellen, einfachen und wirtschaftlichen Verschlussmöglichkeiten? Benötigen Sie ein gewisses Maß an Flexibilität, um Unregelmäßigkeiten in Materialabmessungen oder wechselnde Griffgrößen auszugleichen? Dann empfiehlt sich die Verwendung von Kompressionsverschlüssen, wobei die konkrete Ausführung vom Design des IT- und Elektronikschrankes und der Installationsumgebung abhängt. Weitere Faktoren, die zur Auswahl von Kompressionsverschlüssen führen können, sind besondere Anforderungen hinsichtlich der Vibrationsbeständigkeit und der Geräuschdämpfung.
Wenn eine bedienerfreundliche Schließung durch einfaches "Zuschlagen" gewünscht ist, wird sich das Augenmerk auf Schnappverschlüsse mit oder ohne Abschließfunktion richten. Wenn der IT- und Elektronikschrank über planparallele Platten verfügt und die Platten nicht exakt auf einer Ebene anschließen, kann ein Spannverschluss eingesetzt werden, um zwei Platten oder aber eine Platte und einen Rahmen auf der gleichen Fläche zusammen zu ziehen. Verschiedene Formen von Hebel- und Drehwirkung ermöglichen Variationen in der Spannintensität und können so relativ hohe Maximalwerte für Betriebslasten ermöglichen.

The free application locates nearby libraries and allows users to search library catalogs for available materials. Symphony currently connects over 700 libraries’ patrons with materials and resources.
BookMyne uses the iPhone’s GPS capabilities and the Google Maps API to identify participating libraries nearby. Users can identify the libraries they use frequently, and can search for other participating libraries from a global view.
Libraries can become discoverable through BookMyne by installing SirsiDynix Symphony Web Services, which gives libraries unprecedented access to their Symphony data. Symphony Web Services 2.0 is available at no cost to institutions using Symphony version 3.3 or later.
Symphony Web Services provides an administrative user interface to register libraries with the global directory of participating libraries. Libraries can list contact information, hours and website and include their logo and an image of the library that will appear when a user accesses their library through their iPhone.
Extensive documentation and installation instructions are available through the SirsiDynix Client Care Portal to guide Symphony Web Services installation, including a video capture walk-through of the installation process. Full installation services are also available.
SirsiDynix will provide public awareness materials for libraries to notify their users that their catalog is available on their iPhone.

Translating experience I have been working as a freelance translator since April 2012 and have a lot of experience in translating from previous professional activities as well. For 13 years I worked for SirsiDynix, a U.S. software company that develops Library Automation Systems. Among other tasks I was responsible for the localization of the client software and the related documentation from English into German. I did this work using the SDL TRADOS CAT-Tool. I also translated the press releases of the company into German.
Since I have started working as a freelance translator I mainly did translations from English into German for a U.S. company producing hinges, positioning technologies and mechanic and electronic locks for many industries. The tasks include translation of press releases, internal sales emails, web site contents as well as further documents needed for product launches, e. g. technical datasheets. I use the Across CAT-Tool for working on the translation tasks of this company.
Language skills I am a certified translator for English (Staatlich Geprüfte Übersetzerin). I acquired the skills for passing the respective exam through three years’ participation in a correspondence course at AKAD Privathochschulen, Stuttgart. The main subject of the course and exam was business.
My skills in French and Italian are based on my studies of French and Italian literature and linguistics at the University of Stuttgart. These studies also included translation courses. I received a Master’s degree in these subjects. I lived in Italy for one year and thus also have practical experience with Italian. I am continually in touch with French because I live in a bilingual family.
Fields of experience Due to my work as a translator, my previous professional activities and my studies I acquired experience in many fields, including library science (I am a certified librarian), library automation, business, marketing, IT in general, software localization, software user manuals, database management, technical components, literature, linguistics, history of art (Master’s degree).
I would really like to extend my translation knowledge to further fields such as media, tourism, and additional areas of technology. Due to my good general educational background and my intensive studies of several subjects I easily become acquainted with new fields of interest.´
